Switchers World's Benchwork

Main box

The wooden module for The Switchers World consists of 11mm plywood for the horicontal plate and 19mm plywood for the vertical plates. All parts are skrewed together. The complete size is 125cm x 26cm (49.2" x 10.2").

Extensions

Perhaps the one or the other reader thought that with a track length of one box car one the left and right end of The Switchers World it is not possible do any switching operation. Correct, absolutely correct. Therefore I build my so called Switching Extensions which can be put on The Switchers World to be able to do some switching. These Switching Extensions are double L-shaped wooden pieces with the length for a GP-7

On the horicontal plywood a layer of corkbed will be laid. On the corkbed a straight track including ballast will be laid. One problem with the Switching Extensions is that the width of a locomotive or freight car is nearly the same. This means that a PUNCH from the side may let a locomotive fall down to the ground. To avoid this I will provide vertical plexi glass 2...4cm height.
The Switching Extensions itself will be VERSCHRAUBT with the module with 6mm screws in 8mm holes.

Feets

The feets are fir rods screwed H-shaped together. They are connected to the module box through 6mm screws in 8mm holes to allow a basic alignment in the height to correct uneveness in the floor.
Pratical experience after building: the idea is good but something went wrong while BOHREN the holes in the feets - these and the holes in the module are a little bit misaligned (just 1..2mm). But this limits the alignment possibilities to, lets say and think positive,  a minimum... But the module stands GERADE so I don't need to VERBESSERN something - good luck.

Screws

I use normal screws for connecting the wooden pieces. Nothing special.
