Switchers World's Buildings

There will not be a great number of buildings or other scenery stuff. But this little one has to be chosen very carefully to get the right atmosphere of a busy industrial area.
The most significant buildings will be the two in the background. Then a set of gas (or liquid) tanks on the left side and (perhaps) a street bridge on the very left side will build the AUSSTATTUNG.

Armstrong Electric Motors

Walthers offers in its Cornerstone Series(R) so-called Background Buildings. They say about their own buildings:
Armstrong Electric Motors
"Finally! There's a quick, affordable way to add scenery anywhere space is limited - without the added time and trouble of kitbashing!
Background Building Walls let you use that last little bit of space to create a realistic background for any industrial area. These HO Scale kits can be used on the edge of your benchwork, along a shelf or modular layout and in dioramas. Once installed, they provide a smooth, realistic transition between 3-D foreground scenes and printed or painted backgrounds.
...
Based on popular Cornerstone Series(R) structures, you can build them stock or easily customize them. Each has scribed cut lines molded on the inside so you can cut new angles or reduce the width to fit your pike. Each building also comes with a variety of add-on details, a partial roof and colorful sign decals."

That's it folks! I couldn't say it better. Okay, I'm not a native english speaker and I don't work in a MARKETING department. But it's correct: with these kind of buildings it is possible to add depth to the layout in case you have the necessary space available. Perhaps someone may say that a kitbashed building adds more ABWECHSLUNG to a layout because the kitbashed building can't be seen on other layouts. But you can add variety by coloring your buildings which adds variety also.

Armstrong Electric Motors will be built up in the long version. This long version is about 420mm long and has two loading doors. The original kit includes a loading ramp which will perhaps not installed because spaceis tight. Additionally the freight cars have to be switched more carefully because the loading doors of freight car and building should match!
It's not decided at the moment if an electric motor industry will be build or anything else. It will be an industry which is able to receive a great variety of freight cars and is not restricted to one sort e.g. box cars.

Heritage Furniture

Heritage Furniture BuildingNearly the same what is true for Armstrong Electric Motors is true for Heritage Furniture. It is also a Walthers background building great for small spaces. I really like the covered freight car loading dock which will add some interesting views.
The Heritage Furniture building will be build as Less-than-Carload-Lot (LCL) industry. These industries act as a kind of universal industries because nearly everything is loaded there. Great, isn't it?
But this background building is not deep enough. At the very back there's about 1cm missing. I will built something from styrene sheet to give the impression as if the Heritage Furniture is a newer extension of an older building to add some warehouse space and the covered freight car loading dock.

Gas tanks

The gas tanks will add the possibiliy to use tank cars on the Switchers World. Loading capabilities for the gas tanks wil be realized by simply adding some hydrants near the track (see Model Railroad Planning 2003).

Street bridge

The problem with such a micro layout is that from every point of view the edges are visible. My idea is that something going from the front to the back of the layout and positioned on the left (or right edge) will act as a scenic wall to the visitor and hold his view within the layouts edges.
I will build a street bridge on the left side as a scenic wall. I'm not sure at the moment if this bridge will have the full width. This will be decided later with a prototype.
